TCO’s flute section will get together virtually on Thursday, 9/24/20 at 2p EST to discuss orchestral playing and anything else, hosted by Powell. Look for it on Facebook.
New TCO recordings
Newly released: The Cleveland Orchestra: A New Century Coming October 2: The Cleveland Orchestra: Schubert and Krenek (recorded live days before quarantine)
Adella, coming soon
By now, TCO has been in quarantine since March 13, just like most of the rest of the world. One new way we’ll be able to reach audiences will be a streaming platform, due to release soon. Looking forward to playing for you again! More to come.
Transir
TCO concerts the weekend November 8-10, 2018 feature Transir by Matthias Pintscher, a flute concerto that has thrown some absolutely new technical challenges at me. I’m looking forward to diving into this piece with the orchestra and Alain Altinoglu.
Alan Gilbert’s Concert for Unity
I’m pleased to be joining the New York Philharmonic’s flute section as a guest for Alan’s final concerts, in what I think will be a stunning performance of Mahler’s Seventh.
New Brahms from Franz and TCO
One of my favorite concerts of 17/18 (indeed, of at least the last few years) was a Brahms German Requiem at St. Florian Abbey in Austria. The setting and the acoustics at the abbey are spectacular, and all artists are in top form. I’m so happy that we recorded live that night for ClasArt. Available: TCO store Amazon
New Mozart from Mitsuko and TCO
The latest collaboration between Mitsuko and The Cleveland Orchestra is released on Decca. At iTunes, Amazon, and others.

We played a lot of Strauss, too, at Salzburg and Grafenegg (“Domestica,” “Four Last Songs,” and “Death …

Returning to Mozart next week… Joshua Smith is looking forward to joining Yolanda Kondonassis (harp) and Jane Glover (conductor) and The Cleveland Orchestra for Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp in April, 2016 at Severance Hall. (photo by Roger Mastroianni)
DVD/Blu-ray release: Brahms Cycle
The newest Cleveland Orchestra DVD release is a three-disc set of Brahms’ Orchestral Works recorded live at world-class venues. Available on DVD and Blu-ray, the box set features the four Symphonies, both Piano Concertos, the Violin Concerto, and three other orchestral works. These works were recorded live in three of the world’s most acclaimed concert venues between January 2014 and …
